Frequently Asked Questions
Answers to frequently asked questions about our classes, the studio, and the history of pole.
What is the cancellation policy?
Classes must be cancelled a minimum of 12 hours in advance of the class start time. If classes are cancelled within 12 hours of the class start time, your payment for class will not be refunded. Any classes that are cancelled prior to the 12 hour window can be used toward your next booking or refunded in full. Please understand that cancellation policies are necessary to the running of a small business such as ours, and we can not make exceptions to this rule.
Do I have to have upper body strength or be flexible to try pole?
No! Our classes are designed to help you build the strength and flexibility you need at a pace that is safe and appropriate for your body. Most people come to pole with no particular strength or flexibility and build it through consistent practice and training. In fact, many famous pole dancers couldn't touch their toes or do a pull-up before they started pole, and now they are pros. No experience of any kind is necessary for our Intro classes.
What should I wear/bring to class?
For Intro classes, you may wear a vest top and cycle shorts or exercise shorts (skin grip is a necessary part of pole dancing, so it helps to have your arms and legs exposed). For Level 1 and up classes, please wear a sports bra or pole top and cycle shorts or pole bottoms. For flexibility or yoga classes, wear clothes that are comfortable that you can easily move or stretch in. Layers can be helpful for all classes (such as joggers and a zip-up hoodie) to help keep the muscles warm.
Please always bring a water with you to class to help you stay hydrated.
Is there parking?
Yes, we have free, on-site parking. See the home page for a map with visitor parking spaces labeled.
Can I wear lotions, creams, or oils on the day I come to class?
No! Please avoid using any creams, lotions, or oils on the day you have pole class (until after class) as it makes the pole slippery and can be dangerous.
Who can take classes at Spin & Flow?
Spin & Flow Pole Studio is open to women and LGBTQ+ adults, age 18 and up. We ask that you treat staff and your fellow students with kindness and respect to maintain a safe and comfortable community for all. If you have questions about specific physical limitations or medical conditions, please contact us.
What if I am not comfortable in my body or wearing the suggested attire?
Spin & Flow Pole Studio is a non-judgmental, body neutral zone. All body sizes and shapes are welcome. While it helps to have skin contact with the pole by wearing a vest top and shorts, new students are welcome to wear what they feel most comfortable in.
We also ask our students to avoid commenting on their own or other’s bodies while in the studio, as that can take away from our comfort level and gives us a healthy break from the pressure many of us feel about how we look.
While trying pole can feel intimidating, many find that it helps them find a new appreciation for what their bodies are capable of and can be incredibly confidence building.
What is the history of pole dancing?
The origins of pole dancing are hotly debated, but the style of pole that we know and see in pole studios today primarily originated in strip clubs in North America. Around the 1990's, strippers started teaching pole lessons to those who asked and shortly thereafter, pole studios were born. Since then, pole has grown into a massive industry with competitions, professional shows, and pole acts being performed worldwide. At Spin & Flow Pole Studio, we respect pole's roots.
